Un-Manage Your Employees

I so believe in this mantra, yet to execute & implement that in exactly the way DHH advocates is something which I fear only 37Signals can do. If you're a fan of their business philosophies, you'll know that there are many of those philosophies that just seem unattainable to the Average Joe and their business.

And that's okay.

I always read these kind of articles, because it inspires and challenges my own way of thinking & doing. That's what's important; it's not about implementing their way of doing. Instead it's about learning from the best and then fusing that in an unique combo with what you know works for your team.

Crash Test (Woo) Dummy

You'll see that this is the 3rd design that I'm featuring here in the last couple of weeks and it's only significant, because they've all been WooThemes (currently running Crisp).

I fully intend on having the Radiiate team create something custom & awesome for me, but until some capacity is freed up for that, I'm playing with a bunch of WooThemes instead. The whole experience has been great (considering that I'm running an unmodified version of Crisp and didn't have to touch the code once) and very valuable in putting myself in the shoes of our users.

It's not often that I get to experience the thrills and frustrations that our users have to work through.

During the experimentation period, I'm sure you'll bear with me. :)

Delegate or die: the self-employed trap.

I found this article so incredibly valuable, purely because this has been something that I've always struggled with. Running & co-owning 2 companies for 3+ years now, you'd think that I'd be able to delegate with my eyes closed, yet that's not close to the truth...

In both companies, we have amazing teams and whilst we delegate a bucketload already, we're not quite where Derek suggests just yet. Definitely something to improve on this year.

Still Pure

Spent an amazing day in Riebeek Kasteel, which is a "boutique" little town out in the countryside, about a hour's drive away from home.

The cool thing about the day is that this isn't something I ever considered doing last year. Part of my new year's resolution was to explore my own country a little more and also to not be so lazy in not driving around and exploring. Especially on weekends. :)

So Jeanne & I spent an amazing day just relaxing in this little town, walking around and checking out random shops. I also had the most amazing burger I ever had at Bar Bar Black Sheep.

Bonus of the day: a bunch of cool photography opportunities. :)
